Ahead of half term next week, DFL and their advisors have put together an A-Z list of London boroughs offering free schools meals.

See below borough by borough list of councils and places offering free meals this half term.

 

1.       Barking and Dagenham

Food clubs run by the LBBD council:

  • There is a food club at William Bellamy Children’s Centre in Frizlands Lane, Dagenham, open every Monday from 11am to 4pm. Telephone 020 8724 1983.
  • There is a second at Marks Gate Community Hub in Rose Lane open Wednesdays from 11am and 1pm. Email cfc.mg@lbbd.gov.uk
  • A third is at the Sue Bramley Children’s Centre in Bastable Avenue, Barking, which runs between 12pm and 2pm on Fridays. Call 020 8724 1983.
  • There is a fourth club at Barking Learning Centre in Town Square which is open on Tuesdays from 12pm to 4pm. Telephone 020 8724 8725.

2.      Barnet

Parents of children who receive free school meals will be offered £15 food vouchers through their schools to cover for the half term break.

Foodbanks:

  • Chipping Barnet foodbank:

if you or anyone you know will struggle with food during half term this week, we want to help. On Tuesday during our normal session (12pm and 2pm), we will also be offering food parcels to families to help provide lunches during half term. You will not need a voucher for this, please just private message us on Facebook or send us an email at: info@chippingbarnet.foodbank.org.uk and we will provide you with more information on how and when to pick up your food.

Theo's Cafe and Grill strongly believe that no child should ever go hungry, so we are supporting #endchildfoodpoverty campaign. This half-term, we are offering free school meals for any child who needs it. Simply pop in between 2-4 pm from Monday 26th October to Friday 30th October.
You can choose from Set 1 (egg, sausage, bacon, hash brown, and beans), anything from the Kids menu, or a sandwich.

4.      Brent

Parents of children eligible for Free School Meals will be able to collect a £15 food voucher from Brent Council to help children get a meal every day next week.

If families are suffering food hardship on Monday or Tuesday, Brent Council can assist with a Food Bank referral. Parents can contact Brent council on 0208 937 1234 for a temporary urgent food bank referral.

Places providing free meals for kids in half term  

  • Granville Community Kitchen will be open every Wednesday for food aid packages and cooked food for families only. The Granville, 140 Carlton Vale, NW6 5HE

If you would like a free hot meal you can collect, it from 2pm every Wednesday. Deliveries are also available. Food aid is also available on Fridays from 6pm.

5.       Bromley

Bromley council rule out Free school meals for the half Terms, except for those children who are already on Free school Meals. 

 

6.      Camden

Camden Council: issuing vouchers directly to the Family; 

  •   A family with one child is £15 vouchers 
  •   A family of two or 3 children £35. 
  •   A family of 4+ children £50. 

7.       Croydon   

Croydon Council is only providing for those children who are already on the free school meals, and those that struggling to contact the office through the education enquires. 

If your family receives free school meals and are struggling during half term, contact the school’s team to apply for supermarket vouchers.

For a safe and social distanced pick up, Bombaylicious advises you to place your orders for pick up between 4- 6pm, Tuesday to Friday throughout this half term. 

Children under the age of 12 must be accompanied by an adult.

 Schools:

  • Broadmead Primary School, part of The Pioneer Academy, has teamed up with Nourish Catering to provide the free of charge lunches for families of students from Monday to Wednesday of the half term break.

The initiative is aimed at providing the meal for students and their parents to take the weight off families, after some parents asked the school for referrals to food banks.

8.      Ealing

Ealing Council donated to the food bank and asking the businesses and some organisations to also help by donating to the food banks. 

9.      Enfield

A statement regarding Enfield Council’s policy can be found on the council website:

The council said: "Royal Greenwich is ensuring that regular meals are provided for children and young people within the borough during the school holidays, through funding the Holiday Meals mobile kitchen.”

Teaming up with ACE Pizza to offer free meals for kids between 4pm-6pm Mon-Fri. In addition, £1 from every pizza sold during the week will be donated to Hackney Food Bank. 

Hackney residents can collect a free kids lunches from the Yellow Warbler Coffee from 12pm-2pm, Monday to Friday during half term. If you would prefer to get in touch privately, email stewart@yellowwarbler.coffee 

The in-house restaurant @StudioKitchenN1 will be providing free meals for Hackney children during half term. They will be ready and waiting for collection from 11am-12pm, Monday to Friday. 

Free packed lunches are available from 26-30 October, Monday to Friday, for collection 12pm-1pm. No questions asked. Each packed lunch will consist of a ham or cheese roll, piece of fruit, box of raisins, yoghurt, crisps and fruit juice. 

 Free packed lunches for kids who need it from Monday to Sunday during half term. Just swing by and pick up a bag, no questions asked. 

12.   Hammersmith and Fulham

A statement regarding Enfield Council’s policy can be found on the council website: 

Hammersmith & Fulham Council will give every pupil in need free meal vouchers for next week’s half term break.

Places providing free meals for kids in half term 

Free kids meals for locals to the Hammersmith and Tavistock Square branches from 12pm-5pm, 26 Oct-1 Nov. Each outlet will be offering 25 free meals a day with four chicken wings, fries and a soda. Just walk in and say you would like a free kids meal 

Giving out 1,000 free, healthy lunches to children over half-term from their pubs in Hammersmith, Surbiton and Kingston. Email lunch@bigsmokebrew.co.uk to let them know how many meals you need. 

Kids eat free this half term (26-30 Oct) with a full paying adult between 12pm-6pm. Available for children aged 12 and under. Pre-booking is not essential but is advised. 

  • Brownie Box 

‘Growing up in South Africa our school didn't offer lunch, but my Mom made us lunch every day and if she didn't we had lunch money. It is unfathomable to think that kids will go hungry during half term. If you rely on free school meals and are in need this week please get in touch. FREE DINNERS FOR FAMILIES THIS HALF TERM. The school holidays are an especially hard time for those in our communities facing poverty. This is not a new problem, @surplus.tosupper have been distributing food to those families for over 4 years. I have teamed up with this incredible charity to provide wholesome meals from quality surplus food they collect daily from local supermarkets.

I think we need to remember that its not just the children that are going hungry its the whole family, so I will be making savoury and sweet tray bakes for families of up to 6 people (if you have a larger family I can also accommodate).

18.   Islington

One hundred free lunches for children in need available every weekday during half term from 12pm-2pm.

  • Southpaw Coffee, Islington & Hackney

Free packed lunches for kids who need it from Monday to Sunday during half term. Just swing by and pick up a bag, no questions asked.

Finks, IslingtonFinks is giving away as many free school meals as they can from Thursday during half term. Each meal will contain a veggie main (tomato and roast veg pasta or homemade wholemeal veggie pizza), with hummus and veg sticks, a piece of fruit, a slice of banana bread cake and a drink.
